On December 2nd 2025, Nordic Blockchain Association convened a select group of leaders from banking and payments for an exclusive roundtable on the future financial infrastructure, market maturity, and dynamics in our region.
Moderated by our CEO, Jakob Mikkel Hansen, and hosted in the unexpected yet energizing setting of Soho House & Co Copenhagen, the atmosphere helped spark open, cross-sector dialogue and fresh perspectives on the road ahead.
Some key insights:
- The crypto interest is real, and several banks are considering a crypto or digital asset offer for their clients. Investment appetite is increasing with the younger clientele who prefer trading through their bank rather than a crypto platform, which is a tendency across age groups.
- Taxation and regulation are challenges that require much awareness building, dialogue and education, both internally and externally with regulators.
- Many see that effective stablecoin solutions are best driven by the private sector rather than central banks - helping to foster innovation while lessening the risk of overly restrictive regulation.
- Banks need to carefully weigh the benefits and risks of developing their own stablecoin versus participating in a consortium or leveraging a CBDC.
- Cross-border transactions remain one of the strongest use cases for stablecoins. However, actual use is expected to grow significantly as more stablecoins denominated in local currencies begin to enter the market.
- Resiliency is critical, with robust backup solutions required to avoid single points of failure.
- On and off-ramps, as well as liquidity, remain significant challenges for implementing new offerings.
Thank you to everyone who brought their insight and expertise to the table - and a special thank you to BitGo and Brett Reeves for generously co-hosting the event. The momentum from yesterday will carry directly into the work ahead.
Lastly, thank you to the NBA team - Magnus Jones, Lennart Kirk, and Charlotte Bossen Nielsen - for their forward-thinking perspectives and engaging contributions, both during the roundtable and in subsequent discussions over gløgg in the Soho House lounge.
